Duties & Responsibilities
Provide site with support and tools needed to help lead a positive Safety Culture
- Work directly with Managers, Supervisors, and Employees on safety related issues brought up or discovered
- Assist in problem solving and documentation of safety related concerns to provide solutions and follow-up
- Provide updates on current safety projects/issues during Manager, Production, and Huddle meetings
- Conduct regular “field walks” and provide recognition to employees for positive safety behaviors and provide guidance when needed
Assist Plant Manager and Safety Manager with projects
- Helping develop, update, and improve Safety programs
- Obtain quotes and assist with project planning for safety related projects
- Provide and obtain input from employees and Site Leadership
- Key contact for managing site specific LOTO procedures and permits on site
Lead efforts in the management of the site Process Safety Management Program
- Work with Leadership Team to ensure that all Management of Change activities are initiated and completed
- Provide training for Employees and Site Leadership on the concepts of Process Safety Management
- Coordinate the completion of audits and process hazard analysis requirements
- Work with the Leadership Team on coordination for mechanical integrity inspections (API 653, API 570, etc.)
- Review and provide/track follow-up items from all mechanical integrity, audit, and PHA recommendations
Assist Safety Manager with incident investigations
- Lead efforts, ensure timely completeness, and collaborate with Leadership Team on the investigations of all injuries, property damages, and near misses at Marquis Energy – Illinois LLC
- Assist in employee interviews and root cause analysis collaboratively with Leadership Team
- Collaborate with Leadership Team to Develop and distribute Safety Flashes as needed
Safety Training
- Help develop and administer monthly safety training and perform site specific new hire orientation
- Perform fit testing for respirator users on site
- Track compliance with specialized safety training and provide updates and support to Supervisors and Managers to complete training (LOTO Hands-On Demonstrations, DOT Hazmat, etc)
- Track compliance with equipment training and provide hands on demonstrations for equipment / work with Leadership Team and other trainers on site to complete training (Forklift, Aerial Lift, Skid Steer, etc.)
Perform routine safety inspections
- Monthly Safety Inspections
- Eyewash and Safety Shower
- Arc Flash and Spill Kit Inventory
- Ladder Inspections
- Extension Cord
- Assist in implementing and hosting regular Safety Walks with Management team
Participate and assist in leading confined space rescue team
- Help schedule and host quarterly drills for team
- Ensure monthly inventory of confined space rescue equipment is completed
Maintain and review MSDS Online chemical inventory and SDS updates
- Ensure new chemicals are properly accounted for in the facilities safety management systems
- Assist in developing, implementing, and tracking usage of regulated materials
Maintain Safety Systems
- Monitor all site functions within Velocity EHS
- Keep employees up to date with safety systems and tracking sheets to ensure the proper training is assigned and tracked
- Follow up with Site Leadership on all open action items and follow up within the system
Create and manage action items generated through inspections, employee suggestions, incident investigations, and other sources in concert with the Safety Manager
Evaluate and assist in the execution of appropriate safety procedures during planned and unplanned maintenance activities as they arise within the facility
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in health and safety or a related field
Certified Safety Professional or similar form of licensure preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Safety Leadership role
Minimum of 5 years of experience with Process Safety Management program management
Chemical Manufacturing or similar work experience
Experience with OSHA, DOT, and FRA
Experience with PowerPoint, Excel, and auditor safety software
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation
Understanding of federal, state, and city safety requirements, including OSHA
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines
Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees and project managers
Understanding of how to read blueprints and other construction plans preferred in some fields
Leadership skills, such as the ability to motivate a team and provide feedback
Physical Requirements
Able to climb ladders and stairs and lift up to 100lbs
